Research
Research in the Laboratory for Nano and Micro Photonics (LaNMP) can be broadly defined as manipulating the performance and functionality of photonic devices by
(i) design of semiconductor (organic / inorganic) heterostructures with desired optical properties and
(ii) embedding these designer materials in structures such as waveguides and nano/micro-cavities.
Projects being pursued include:
- Micro and nano-cavities with colloidal quantum dot active medium (Funding: AFOSR, DOD Center for Nanoscale Emitters)
- Photonic integrated circuits using colloidal quantum dot composites (Funding: ARO)
- Metal dielectric photonic crystals (Funding: PSC- CUNY)
- Terahertz photonic bandgap structures (Funding: Howard Hughes Summer Research Prog)
- Organic-inorganic hybrid structures for enhanced optical nonlinearity
- Microdisk resonator based biosensors
